Friday I’m in love

Well, not really, but I’m in love with this Friday! After days and days of rain and bleakness finally some sun! And it’s the weekend which is always great. Also, a sunny day means taking pictures is once more possible which is what I did this morning (apart from dutifully reading H. Paul’s ‘Principles of linguistics’ 🙂 ).

Here goes:

fibre

This is a BFL/Silk/Linen top dyed by my friend Susann (who btw sells gorgeous Estonian and hand-dyed yarns in her shop ) and gifted to me for my birthday. The linen content made it a bit of a challenge to spin for me but in the end I managed. Details will follow but I’m a bit surprised I managed to squeeze over 300 meters out of a mere 55 g of fibre.

The shine and the colours remind me of brocade, I’m waiting to see what the final soak will do with it.

I had a hard time deciding what to spin next but seeing as I managed to get my hands on some Hello Yarn Shetland I settled for this. The hype around this fibre is totally justified – it spins like butter and the colours are amazing. I’m aiming for a sport or DK weight 2 ply but let’s see how that will work out.

So, the weekend! I’m planning to finish the next five chapters of H. Paul, make some soup (pea soup – mmmh!) plus some knitting and spinning time. After that it’s once more into the breach for the last week of semester (not counting the 120 tests I’ll have to grade the following week…)

Principles of linguistics sound very intriguing, indeed! I like your handspun, too. Very harmonic colour; I wouldn’t have expected such subtle charm from that batch.
How unfair! I’ve still got two weeks to go!
    Have an enjoyable Sunday!
